Design Rationale
I worked to capture the playful and childlike energy of Matisse's cutouts in every aspect of this website. After reviewing Matisse's works, I selected images for the home page that would complement his artistic style. During my exploration, I stumbled upon a piece Matisse designed for an exhibition catalog in 1951. I deconstructed and rearranged the piece with a web-optimized twist, ensuring that every aspect of the site, from animations to code, exuded simplicity and playfulness.
The site intentionally lacks explicit instructions, encouraging exploration. Navigating back to the home page from the detail page is intuitive, offering three options: clicking the signature (top left), the eyes (top right), or any open space on the page. This design approach invites users to engage freely and playfully, echoing the spirit of Matisse's cutouts.
